Deming Circle of Continuous Improvement

Organisational development is a process that never stops. The Deming Circle of Continuous Improvement reflects this continuous improvement in a graphical way:

Based on the Deming Circle of Continuous Improvement your organisation can choose from many tools that can be used during the organisational development process. Some of these tools are:

No matter what tool(s) your organisation selects, the organisational development process normally can be divided in five phases:

  • Analysis/evaluation to define the value of organisational development;
  • Discussion to define and authorize organisational development projects;
  • Development of measurement system (normally based on the Balance Score Card methodology) to plan and measure the organisational development targets;
  • Execution of the projects;
  • Closing of the projects and final measurement of the results and benefits of the organisational development process.

In organisational development projects many organisations start with the EFQM Business Excellence scan. The EFQM Business Excellence framework can be a basis that your organisation can use to define the areas that need to be developed.
